How much of my HRA is exempt from tax?

The least of the following three amounts is exempt from tax:

  1. HRA received from your employer
  2. Actual rent paid minus 10% of salary (Basic + DA)
  3. 50% of salary for metro cities, or 40% for non-metro cities
